MEET OUR MUSE: EVE LIU
August 6, 2019
For FW19, we hand-selected a group of inspiring and diverse "Muses" to share their unique take on personal style and our newest collection: Alchemy. To kick off the series, we caught up with Eve Liu - former Lulu Frost intern, photographer, stylist, student and undeniable star on the rise. Lucky for us, she was game to create one of her signature, stunning series of self-portraits featuring favorites from our FW19 collection. Afterwards, we caught up with her to chat about the magic of transformation, the best advice her Mom gave her and why she's excited about the future of the fashion industry.

Q: You're a midwest girl, who we met in NYC before you spent a semester abroad in Hong Kong. Where do you feel most at home? Where do you feel most inspired?
A: Most of my family and friends are currently in Minnesota, so I've got a soft spot for the Midwest. But I feel most inspired when I'm traveling and when I'm in New York. New York and China have my heart - I'm always nostalgic for my parent's hometowns and I can't get enough of NYC's energy.
Q: While we love all of your photography, we are particularly drawn to your series of self-portraits. How did those begin and what do you like about being both in front of and behind the lens?
A: I started taking self-portraits when I first picked up the old family camera as an outlet of expression. Despite the humble setup of window light, camera remote or timer, and a makeshift tripod created from stacked objects, I always looked forward to shooting my own portraits. I particularly like shooting self-portraits, either alone or with a beauty team, because I have complete control over the creative process.
Q: Our FW19 'Alchemy' collection is all about transformation. As a student that will soon graduate - what transformation are you most looking forward to during this shift in your own life?
A: I'm quite curious about where I'll be a year from now. People are constantly learning and changing, and I'm excited to see how I'll grow emotionally and creatively during this shift in my life.
Q: As someone on the cusp of a career in the fashion world, what changes are you excited to see in the industry? What would you like to see more or less of as your generation takes the reigns?
A: If I had to choose, technology. Right now, fashion is experiencing a wave of nostalgia. I can't wait to see how tech will be incorporated into and influence future trends and collections!
Q: How has your own personal style transformed in recent years and what are some of the major influences that sparked those changes?
A: My style has evolved a lot with different sports/interests/hobbies but my Mom has always been a big influence. I wear a lot of her old clothes and jewelry - and always get compliments when I do!
Q: What's your go-to "uniform" when you're behind the camera?
A: Lately, I've been loving paper bag waist pants or culottes paired with a tie-front top and bralette! I'm always wearing a charm necklace too.
Q: Have you always been drawn to jewelry? Or is it something that you've gravitated more towards in recent years?
A: I've always admired jewelry, but it's definitely grown on me recently. My interest really took off after interning at Lulu Frost last summer! Being around jewelry all the time and learning more about the process of making jewelry really inspired me. A few months ago, I took a metalsmith class at my college and really enjoyed it.
Q: Is there a style tip you'd share with us that's been passed down to you from your mother or grandmother?
A: Wear what you like, for you.
Q: Complete the sentence: When I wear Lulu Frost I feel...
A: Empowered.
